The Primosole Bridge expansion is played together with the Sicily 43 – Gela Beachhead module. This campaign expansion depicts the multi-day delaying action between British and German airborne troops (red devils vs. green devils) around the important bridge over the Simeto River south of Catania.
The Battle of the Primosole Bridge took place between the 14th and the 17th July 1943. This decisive battle was part of the Sicily campaign and played a key role in the Allied liberation of the island from Axis control. The Primosole Bridge, which spans the Simeto River, became the focal point of intense fighting between the British and German troops.
At the time, Sicily was under German occupation, and the Allies recognized the strategic importance of gaining control over the island. The Primosole Bridge, located near the eastern coast of Sicily, held immense significance as it provided a vital route for the German forces to reinforce
their positions and launch counterattacks against the advancing Allies.
